Character before charisma
Trust, discretion and accountability matter more than a polished first impression.
Careers at Shirley Luu & Associates
SLA welcomes accomplished, highly motivated professionals who want to develop their craft, serve people responsibly and build something of lasting value.
A selective opportunity for professionals prepared to learn, perform and lead with integrity.

A profession with consequence
Financial services can offer unusual room to grow, lead and make a measurable difference in people’s lives.
It also asks a great deal of the professional: disciplined learning, relationship building, regulatory responsibility, resilience and an unwavering commitment to client service. SLA is willing to train high-potential people—but the candidate must bring the character and effort that cannot be trained.
Trust, discretion and accountability matter more than a polished first impression.
The desire to build must be matched by consistent preparation, follow-through and professional conduct.
Strong candidates welcome guidance, ask thoughtful questions and take ownership of applying what they learn.
This work requires conviction, but the client’s interests, circumstances and understanding remain central.
Who tends to thrive here
We are particularly interested in people who communicate confidently, respond well to accountability and understand that a durable practice is built one responsible relationship at a time.
You handle personal information and significant financial decisions with care, accuracy and discretion.
You are willing to prospect, network, follow up and earn conversations rather than wait for opportunity to arrive.
You can listen carefully, simplify complex ideas and speak with composure in person or by video.
You can obtain and maintain applicable licenses, carrier appointments and continuing education.
You can organize your time, absorb feedback and continue performing through the natural uncertainty of building a practice.
The work itself
The role extends beyond presenting products. It requires preparation, education, coordination and reliable service before and after a decision is made.
Meet with clients individually—in person or virtually—to understand their financial needs, responsibilities and goals.
Explain insurance and annuity concepts responsibly, helping clients evaluate choices without unnecessary complexity.
Develop familiarity with multiple carriers, product structures, underwriting, platforms and service processes.
Maintain required licenses and appointments while following state, federal, carrier and organizational requirements.
A deliberate selection process
We look for alignment in both directions. The process is designed to make expectations clear before either side makes a commitment.
Share your background, professional experience and reasons for considering SLA.
If your experience appears aligned, we will invite you to a focused introductory discussion.
We discuss expectations, licensing, working structure, compensation and what responsible growth requires.
Selected candidates move into the appropriate licensing, training, appointment and onboarding process.
Specific opportunities may involve licensing, carrier appointments, independent-contractor arrangements and commission-based compensation. Complete terms are explained during the selection process and documented before engagement.
Confident this could fit?
We review every complete submission, but we contact only candidates whose background and perspective appear aligned with a current or developing opportunity.
